“Finding the sweet spot between storytelling and creating a physical place is crucial in scenic design. While storytelling by actors alone can significantly impact a viewer, creating the world around them only furthers what an audience member feels and thinks. I believe theater art is inviting and reinventive, allowing not only the designers to reinterpret scripts but the audience as well.

From a young age, art of all kinds has been enticing to me. It’s an accessible form of expression, with complete freedom to explore my thoughts, emotions, world events, and more. I grew up continuously drawing, painting, and experimenting with three-dimensional mediums, but it wasn’t until my sophomore year of high school, that I found my true passion for scenic design. My first fully realized design of Steel Magnolias, during the spring semester of my junior year opened up an entirely new world of expression. Using stock flats, platforms, and elementary scenic painting skills I was hooked on this brand new storytelling medium immediately.

The ultimate goal in my work is to have the creative freedom to generate significant, inventive, and highly detailed designs to immerse audiences fully. I want my work to assist people’s understanding of the stories they are witnessing and give them something to think about even after they have left the space.”
